Message from the CEO

XOLANI MBAMBO

Appointed CEO, Grindrod Limited on 1 January 2023
CA(SA), AMP (Harvard)

We recently reported our financial results for the year ended 31 December 2023. Despite facing challenges in the macroeconomic environment and commodity price fluctuations, we have demonstrated resilience and growth across our operations.

Our headline earnings increased by 29% to R1.4 billion, with EBITDA reaching 2.5 billion, a 16% rise from the previous year. Furthermore, we are delighted to announce an 84% increase in the full-year dividend to our valued shareholders, now at 72.4 cents per share.

The recent highlights showcase the dedication and hard work of our team. From the extension of the concession to operate the Port of Maputo to the record volumes achieved, the top position secured in the KPMG survey, Best Company in Mozambique, and the surpassing of handling volumes in our terminals, each milestone is a testament to our collective efforts and unwavering commitment to operational excellence.

The launch of the M.V. Mpungu on Lake Victoria in Uganda marks a significant step forward in our regional expansion strategy. Our focus on becoming a regional rail operator is progressing well, and our collaborations with state-owned railways are paving the way for more efficient routes to market for our customers.

As we look ahead to the future, I am confident that we will navigate another challenging year and drive growth by providing cost-effective integrated logistics solutions.

I extend my heartfelt thanks to our investors, employees, customers, and partners for their unwavering support and dedication. Together, we have achieved great things in 2023 and will continue to build on our success.
