In a heartwarming display of community support and inspiration, a team from various Grindrod divisions – Grindrod Terminals, Grindrod Logistics Africa, Corporate Services, and Sturrock Grindrod Maritime, recently visited a school on the outskirts of Richards Bay. The school welcomed the team with open arms and eager hearts.
One of the most touching moments of the visit came when Kwazi Mabaso, CEO of Grindrod Terminals, who had attended the same school in his youth, delivered a motivational speech to the students. He shared words of encouragement about reaching their full potential and making a positive impact in their own environment. Quoting a song that resonated with him as a young student, he emphasized the importance of "brightening up one's own corner" in life.
The school deputy principal expressed heartfelt gratitude for Grindrod's substantial contribution of 300 school shoes and goodie bags filled with stationery and lunch for the students. Sipho Makhunga, Grindrod Terminals' HR manager, took time to engage with the children. To bring Grindrod to life, Sipho showcased some of the commodities handled in our terminal operations and fostered a sense of connection.
Adding to the day's excitement was Ntombi Mseleje, the line manager in operations at Grindrod Terminals. Known for her natural rapport with children, she brought joy and laughter through song and dance and handed out prizes to some of the students. It was a truly moving experience for the entire team, who were deeply touched by the enthusiasm and gratitude shown by the school community.
As the event came to a close, there was a sense of hope and promise in the air, with the knowledge that the next CEO could very well come from this very school. Grindrod's commitment to supporting education and nurturing young talent was evident throughout the visit, leaving a lasting impact on all involved.
This visit to the school was not a fleeting gesture but a testament to Grindrod's enduring commitment to making a difference in the lives of those in need. During a previous visit, Grindrod, in collaboration with Blossom Care, delivered sanitary pads to the girl students.
May we all be reminded of the strength of community, the importance of compassion, and the belief that every child deserves a chance to shine bright and reach for the stars. The impact of this visit will continue to resonate within the school community, serving as a beacon of hope and inspiration for years to come.
